A/C Diagnostics & Repair for Japanese & Asian Imports in Denton

In a North Texas summer, air conditioning isn’t a comfort feature — it’s the difference between a usable car and one you dread getting into at 4 PM in a Denton parking lot. When the air turns weak, warm, or unpredictable, you want two things: an accurate answer about what’s actually wrong, and a fix that lasts past August.

That’s the order we work in at All About Imports: diagnosis first, repair second. We’ve been keeping Japanese and Asian imports blowing cold since 2011 — without dealership prices, and without the guesswork.

A/C Services We Perform

Your A/C is a sealed system with electrical, mechanical, and airflow components — and a failure in any one of them shows up the same way: warm air. We diagnose and repair the whole system:
  • Full-system diagnostics — pressure testing and electronic leak detection to find the actual fault, not just the symptom
  • Refrigerant leak repair — seals, O-rings, lines, and connections, followed by evacuation and recharge to your vehicle’s exact specification
  • Compressor diagnosis and replacement — including the clutch and electrical engagement problems that mimic a dead compressor
  • Condenser and evaporator service — the heat exchangers that road debris and age take out of the fight
  • Climate control and blend door repair — the actuators and controls behind air that comes out the wrong vents or won’t change temperature
  • Cabin air filter replacement — the cheap, forgotten part behind weak airflow and musty smells

Why Diagnosis Beats "Recharge and Hope"

A/C systems don’t use up refrigerant the way an engine uses oil. If your system is low, the refrigerant went somewhere — which means a recharge without finding the leak is a countdown, not a repair. The new refrigerant escapes through the same fault, usually within weeks in summer heat, and you’ve paid twice for the same warm air.

Modern imports add a second wrinkle: much of what looks like an A/C failure is actually electrical — a relay, a pressure sensor, a control module telling a healthy compressor to stay off. That’s why our process starts with diagnostics across both the refrigerant side and the electrical side, and why the repair we quote is for the fault we found, not the part that’s easiest to sell.

There’s a practical safety note in a Texas July, too: a working A/C isn’t a luxury when cabin temperatures can climb dangerously fast for kids, older passengers, and pets. Weak cooling in June rarely improves by August — the season only gets harder on a struggling system.

Signs Your A/C Needs Attention

  • Air blows cool but not cold — or starts cold and fades on longer drives
  • Cold at highway speed but warm at idle or in stop-and-go traffic
  • Weak airflow even on the highest fan setting
  • A musty or chemical smell when the A/C first kicks on
  • Clicking, rattling, or squealing when the compressor engages
  • The system works some days and not others — the classic sign of an electrical or sensor fault

Each of these points to a different part of the system — which is exactly why the diagnosis matters more than the recharge.

Why Denton Import Owners Choose All About Imports

A/C systems differ meaningfully between makes — the climate control logic in a Honda doesn’t behave like the system in a Hyundai, and knowing each system’s habits is the difference between a one-visit fix and a parts-swapping expedition. Imports are all we work on, so these are the exact systems on our lifts every day, all summer long.

We’re a family-owned Denton shop, serving import owners since 2011. We find the fault before we quote the fix, we show you what failed, and we repair what’s broken rather than replacing our way toward a bigger invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my A/C work sometimes and not others?

Intermittent cooling usually points to the electrical side — a failing relay, a pressure sensor cutting the compressor out, or a control fault — rather than low refrigerant, which tends to fail consistently. It’s one of the most misdiagnosed A/C complaints, and it’s why we test the electrical system before touching the refrigerant.

You can, but understand what it does and doesn’t do. If the system is low, it’s leaking — a can refills it without fixing why, so the cold air is temporary. Overcharging is easy to do without gauges and hard on the compressor, and cans with leak-sealer additives can clog components and complicate a proper repair later. A diagnosis costs less than a compressor.

We measure system pressures, verify the compressor is being commanded on and actually engaging, check for leaks electronically and with dye where appropriate, and confirm airflow through the cabin filter, blower, and blend doors. You get a specific answer — what’s wrong, what it takes to fix it, and what can wait.

Most manufacturers call for it every 15,000–30,000 miles, and Texas dust argues for the shorter end. It’s included in most scheduled maintenance intervals  — if your airflow is weak or the vents smell musty, it’s the first, cheapest suspect.
